Frans-Karel Weener was trained as an archaeologist and is specialized in non-western archaeology and ethnohistory. For the last three years he has been active as a freelance researcher, and as such is registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK Amsterdam 34320211.

Frans-Karel Weener and his team research the provenance of objects and the historical background of collections, catalogue and inventory collections. They have worked for a wide range of clients, including museums, gallery owners and private collectors.
